The World's Largest Brick Cathedral

In 1282, Bishop Bernard de Castenet initiated the construction of this cathedral to establish it as a stronghold of Catholicism against the Cathar heresy. This gave the Sainte Cécile cathedral a fortress-like look, softened by its pink brick construction. An unparalleled example of original Gothic architecture, it took two centuries to complete this architectural marvel.
